Explained for every age
For kids (7–11)
Muscles are the body's motors. You pull on them to move, and even to smile or breathe.
For teens (12–16)
More than 600 skeletal muscles attach to bones by tendons and move them by contracting. They work in opposing pairs, like the biceps and the triceps. In a young adult they make up about 40% of body weight.
Pre-Med (17+)
Voluntary striated skeletal muscle (≈ 40% of body mass), organized into fascicles of multinucleated fibers with sarcomeres of actin and myosin. Contraction through calcium-mediated excitation-contraction coupling. Attachments via tendons; innervation by motor units.
